Job Summary
Manages the day-to-day operations and administration for the Office of Sustainability. Maintains confidentiality of all matters related and/or discussed. Assists Director of Sustainability and Physical Plant to compile information for budget requests for the new fiscal year. Obtains quotes and recommends programs and purchases to facilitate operations. Assists Director in project overview. Reviews and proposes new budget for the continuing operations of the Office of Sustainability.
Manages, plans and oversees the Sustainability crew and interns as well as community volunteers. Coordinates community events and leads education/recreation programs. Establishes processes to identify, train and recognize volunteer leaders to support all operations and meet the needs of our growing organization. Supervises the maintenance of files/records for all volunteers, in-kind donations and partnerships, special events/initiatives, their current status and provides reports as requested.
Creates and establishes processes and new procedures to follow in each area. Maintains and updates assignments for Sustainability team. Manages equipment accountability and maintenance of gardening tools. Coordinates procurement from suppliers, schedules deliveries and logistics, ensures quality of shipments for landscapes and special projects. Inspects landscape work to ensure it adheres to original plans as well as working with contractors as needed.
Manages ecological health of the Nature Preserve as well as other Green spaces on all FIU Campuses by developing and implementing maintenance schedules for tasks such as tree planting, tree pruning, trail maintenance, etc. Coordinates the arrangement of existing and proposed use of plants in areas like structures. Provides graphic representation and selection of appropriate materials, analyzes environmental conditions, access to water, drainage, exposure for future developmental areas.
Identifies and pursues external funding, including grants, rebate programs, or other savings programs for sustainability practices and projects relating to outreach and operations. Researches and develops new environmental sustainability programming ideas and identifies resources to expand existing sustainability programs, assists in the development of incentive, recognition and award programs. Creates, updates and maintains content for mobile application development, including overseeing the creation of maps and illustrations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization with four (4) years of related experience, or Master's degree in an appropriate specialization with two (2) years related experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in ecological land management principles.
