CMH is made up of 34 primary and specialty clinics, 6 Long‑Term Care facilities and 1 residential care facility. About the department:
Our float pool supplements staffing throughout the hospital based on need. Nurses who work in the Citizens Memorial Float Pool will be trained to float and support in a variety of areas, including: Medical Surgical, Progressive Care Unit, PCU, Geriatric Psych, The Birth Place, Emergency Department, and ASC‑pre/post op recovery.
Position Summary:
The Staff Support Nurse serves as a flexible clinical resource across all nursing departments, providing direct patient care support, task assistance, and operational relief as needed. This role does not carry a primary patient assignment but functions to enhance workflow efficiency, support bedside staff, and ensure safe, timely patient care delivery throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide hands‑on clinical support across multiple departments, including ICU, Med‑Surg, Emergency Department, and procedural areas as assigned
Assist with patient care tasks such as admissions, discharges, transfers, and patient throughput
Support bedside nurses with high‑acuity or time‑sensitive interventions
Perform delegated nursing tasks including medication administration, IV starts, blood draws, and procedures within scope of practice
Assist with patient transport and coordination of care between departments
Serve as an extra resource during high census, staffing shortages, or critical events
Maintain situational awareness across units to proactively identify areas of need
Support infection prevention, patient safety, and quality initiatives
Assist with stocking, equipment readiness, and supply management as needed
Provide mentorship and support to less experienced staff when appropriate
Job Requirements:
Education: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (Missouri if applicable)
Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of acute care nursing experience preferred
Critical care or emergency experience strongly preferred
Current BLS certification required
ACLS required (or obtained within a specified timeframe)
PALS preferred (based on facility needs)
Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and priorities
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
High level of organization and time management
Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
Proficiency in a wide range of clinical skills across multiple specialties
The position is:
PRN, evenings
