This is a true hunter role for a relationship‑driven sales professional who thrives on opening doors, closing full conversions, and building long‑term, profitable partnerships.
The Job
As a Business Development Manager (BDM) you will be responsible for finding and signing new high‑value customers for Emery Jensen across our key customer channels. The position identifies prospects, develops a pipeline, determines the needs of specific prospects and shares the Emery Jensen value proposition. You will also work closely with the sales team to transition new customers to Territory Managers.
What You Will Do
Increase top‑line sales and target prospective customers with a sales approach that considers profitability.
Demonstrate understanding of levers that create profitable relationships and optimize them.
Research, pursue, and open prospective customers within defined sales channels and articulate the value proposition.
Maintain a weekly prospect pipeline with measurable results.
Present pre‑ and post‑call plans showing measurable improvement toward conversion.
Utilize marketing and merchandising material to present solutions.
Participate in national industry organizations and attend events with a signing strategy.
Communicate and plan transition of newly opened accounts to appropriate Territory Managers.
Manage expenses related to travel, meetings, memberships, and conversion resources within budget.
Attend industry trade shows with a show plan.
What Success Looks Like In This Role
A healthy pipeline of conversion‑ready prospects.
Consistent signing of profitable, long‑term customers.
Strong early‑stage customer performance post‑conversion.
Trusted relationships across retailers, vendors, and industry partners.
What You Need To Succeed
College degree or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years in new business development or territory manager position.
Comfortable with cold calling and proven success.
Knowledge/experience in the hard‑lines industry preferred.
Existing book of business highly preferred.
Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, business intelligence system, CRM tools.
60%–75% travel, including overnight travel, across assigned geography.
Compensation Details
$100,000.00 – $120,000.00.
