Estimator/Project Engineer - Civil Services

Position Overview
The Civil Estimator/Project Engineer plays a key role in both the pre-construction and execution phases of civil excavation projects for Beitzel Corporation. This position is responsible for developing accurate estimates and bids while also providing technical and project support to ensure successful project delivery in the field.

This individual will be responsible for preparing competitive bids, analyzing project documents, and identifying opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency in quoting, while also working closely with field crews to monitor project progress, track production quantities, assist with schedules, and interpret excavation plans to identify additional scope items or risks. By bridging the office and field, the Civil Estimator / Project Engineer ensures alignment between estimates and execution, supports continuous improvement in project delivery, and contributes to the overall success of the Civil Group.

The ideal candidate will have experience in civil estimating or project engineering, with strong knowledge of excavation methods, equipment, and industry best practices. They must be proficient in reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications, and project plans, and be able to apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail. This role requires the ability to balance office and field responsibilities, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with team members at all levels.

What You’ll Do

Coordinate with the civil management team in the planning and estimating of customer projects and initiatives

Responsible to provide competitive and profitable bids and quotes that will sustain and further the growth of the Civil Group

Utilize computer-based software for enhanced and improved estimating

Read prints and designs to develop bill of materials and project take-offs

Travel to customer sites as needed to collect information relevant to project bid efforts

Attend bid meetings and assist with the quoting and bidding effort for civil projects of all sizes

Coordinate project plans, timelines, material, and labor requirements

Cultivate relationships with vendors with an emphasis on increasing efficiencies and reducing costs

Working Conditions

Sit, talk, hear, read, write and type

Walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms

Lift and/or move up to 35 pounds

Perform duties on-site at industrial locations to include walking for extended periods on uneven terrain

What You’ll Bring

1‑3 years of experience in either civil excavating or project estimating preferred

Preference given to candidates with degrees in relevant fields such as Civil Engineering, Business, Accounting, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, etc.

Aptitude to learn new skills quickly

Experience in a variety of Civil fields such as mass excavation, sediment controls, utility installations, fine grading, etc. preferred

Possess a working knowledge of Civil materials and heavy equipment applications to determine project specific needs

Previous experience calculating quantities and materials for civil excavation projects preferred
