Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Critical Care
Seeking a highly skilled, experienced APP to join our growing cardiothoracic critical care team. This 24/7 service requires days, nights, weekends and occasional holidays in rotation with the team.
In this position you will be responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and thoracic diseases under the direction of the attending physician. APPs play an integral role in the multidisciplinary care team by coordinating discussion, communication, and implementation of care plans with various consulting physician services, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nutritional support, and other ancillary teams. APPs are expected to have competency in common ICU procedures, including endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas collection, arterial catheter line placement, central venous catheter line placement, temporary dialysis catheter line placement, transvenous pacemaker line placement, and pulmonary artery catheter line placement.
Our cardiothoracic critical care providers are also the rapid response team for the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.
APPs are expected to interpret and manage endotracheal tubes, tracheostomy tubes, ventilators, pacemakers, sedation (MAC and Deep), ABGs and VBGs, complex acid/base derangements, fluid balance goals with diuretics, hemodialysis, CRRT, vasopressors and inotropes, XRAYS, and laboratory investigations.

Tachycardia (SVT, AFIB, AFLUTTER)
VT/VF
Encephalopathy

Care of postoperative cardiac surgery patients (CABG, Valve, Thoracic)
Care of postoperative heart transplant patients
Care of postoperative lung transplant patients
Care of post cardiac arrest patients
Qualifications
Physician Assistant
Required: Master's Degree graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
LIC-Physician Assistant - State of Michigan, required upon hire
CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA, required upon hire
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA, required within 90 days
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC, required within 90 days
CRT-Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA, required within 120 days
CRT-Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA, required within 120 days
