Summary
Sets up and operates numerical control equipment to machine components to specifications. Satisfy SAs Quality goals and objectives in completion of activities or duties (reference Somic America Quality Manual and Quality Policy).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

Maintain and provide a safe work area and work in a safe manner.
Report any unsafe conditions to Team Leader immediately.
Quality

Complete hourly checks using In Process Check Sheets and gaging to ensure parts meet quality specifications.
Notify Team Leader of any suspect material and help contain material on line side.
Changeovers

Complete changeovers using the Changeover Procedure.
Attach fixture to machine bed and position and secure work piece in fixture according to instructions.
Fill in the changeover checklist to ensure all changeover steps are complete.
Operation

Utilize AIM to transact material at final step of process.
Complete standardized work in accordance with work instructions.
Remove material from boxes and place in fixture or on conveyor.
Observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and start machine; adjust tool offsets as required.
Measure and inspect parts for conformance to specifications/ hourly checks, using in process sheets and gaging.
Notify Team Leader or Production Manager of any abnormal or unusual condition.
Assemble cutting tools in tool holders and position tool holders in machine spindles as specified or insert cutting tools into specified machine magazines.
Change cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
Complete line PMs (planned maintenance) as assigned.
Submit kaizen suggestions for improvements.
3rd Shift Machine Operator

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand eight hours or more a day; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
