Job Description Summary
Adjunct Instructors handle student learning facilitation, ongoing development of instructional strategies that meet student and employer needs, and promote student success. Primary focus is Spanish instruction, with preference for candidates having multiple certifications in other languages, cultures, international studies, intensive English program, and English language learning.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Learning Facilitation – Develop instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies (hybrid, in‑person, virtual, online).
Assessment – Assess student learning, provide regular feedback, and use data to measure outcomes such as persistence, retention, completion, course success. Design improvement strategies based on evidence.
Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate attendance and grade records, ensure a safe instructional environment, and support student engagement evaluation.
Team Participation – Engage with division, department, and team members, stay current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Promote the College and its programs.
Student Success & Support – Advocate for students, collaborate with Student Services to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students succeed.
Professional Development – Continuously improve knowledge and skills through professional development, networking with industry leaders, and integration of new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure for accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
Instructors who teach General Studies college credit courses must meet one of the following:
A Master’s degree in Spanish or a related subfield.
A Master’s degree, plus 18 graduate credits in the discipline or subfield taught.
A Master’s degree, plus appropriate licensure and/or experience in the discipline or subfield taught.
When evaluating a Master of Education degree holder, graduate‑level courses in the discipline and methods courses for that discipline may satisfy the 18‑credit requirement.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license.
Subject to FVTC’s Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Check.
Proficient with learning management systems.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands and circumstances.
Professional communication with various audiences.
Engagement in continuous improvement through innovative methodologies and delivery methods.
Background check including criminal record history will be conducted prior to hire.
Physical Requirements
Sitting and standing for extended periods while performing tasks and using computer systems.
Required mobility – some desk‑based work, but ability to instruct courses.
Climbing stairs or ladders if applicable.
Lifting/carrying light to moderate items (up to 25 lb).
Fine motor skills for writing, demonstrations, or using technology.
Repetitive motions (typing) without discomfort.
Clear verbal and written communication.
Travel may be required for off‑site teaching or professional development.
Driving as part of role requirements.
Work Environment
Teaching will occur in face‑to‑face classrooms, online, and/or hybrid environments.
