In this role, you will perform a wide range of analytical, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks on a diverse fleet that includes construction equipment, trucks, and gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles. You will work across multiple systems-hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, exhaust, and both manual and automatic transmissions-to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. You will also conduct state vehicle inspections, complete accurate work orders, document time spent on tasks, and promptly report any incidents or equipment damage to maintain operational integrity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing preventive maintenance and repairs on a variety of diesel, gasoline, and construction equipment.
- Servicing hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, exhaust, and transmission systems.
- Conducting state vehicle inspections and ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Identifying proper repair procedures for heavy equipment and making necessary mechanical adjustments.
- Maintaining detailed records of work performed and time allocated to each task.
- Reporting equipment issues or damage promptly to support safe and efficient operations.
- Prioritizing a safe work environment for yourself, your team, and equipment operators.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- This position requires possession of an Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position requires the employee to to obtain a tanker endorsement within the probationary period.
