Position: Roadmaster - Track
Oversees construction and maintenance of the MBTA Commuter Rail System to ensure a safe and dependable environment for passenger operation. Supervises restoration and renewals of track. Inspects track for defects as required under Department of Transportation Federal Administration regulations.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

Minimum of five years of practical experience in all aspects of track repair, construction and inspection

Five years of supervisory experience in track construction, turnout and crossover preferred

Trade school/college or equivalent work experience in construction preferred

Conversant with FRA Track Safety Standards, FRA Roadway Workplace Safety Regulations, AREMA manual for railroad engineering, railroad safety rules, and railroad operating rules and instructions highly preferred

Construction, surfacing, grade cross installation, CWR installation, track maintenance and track inspection

Experience in the application of labor contracts preferred

Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties)

Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the KCS principles of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence, Safety & Security, and Economic Performance

Implements and monitors operational practices to ensure equipment reliability and quality service while ensuring a safe and productive workplace

Complies with and ensures staff compliance with all safety rules and procedures, plus reports all hazards as required

Supervises and oversees the activities of all Track employees assigned to Supplemental Work projects for compliance with the applicable Federal, State, and Company rules and regulations as well as KCS / MBTA Contract Agreements

Schedules and tracks projects from both construction and financial aspects

Analyzes efficient utilization of departmental resources, workforce, and facilities to continuously identify improvement in work practices and scheduling

Supports quality assurance of work performed by Track employees assigned to Supplemental Work projects

Ensures compliance of direct reports with all related safety rules, time reporting, procedures and report all hazards as required

Identifies training needs and assists in the formulation and implementation of programs as required

Administers collective bargaining agreements through regular job performance

Ensures compliance with KCS equal employment policies, safety rules, and operating rules

Supervises, manages, and schedules the day-to-day tasks of various production crews as well as outside contractors

Completes other duties as assigned

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential

A valid driver’s license is required to successfully travel throughout the Commuter Rail network and locations as assigned

Working Conditions (including Physical Demands)
Includes special planned work, some nights and weekends. Responds to emergency calls at all items in a 24/7 transportation environment.
