Duties/Responsibilities

Assists with annual computer replacement, asset tracking and recording, installation, and recycling.

Installs the regional standard image on desktops and laptops.

Ensures computers are properly configured, handled, stored, and secured.

Updates inventory changes and identifies need for additional equipment throughout the refresh process.

Identifies computer locations and assists to identify additional applications required by clients (outside of standard image).

Travels to regional offices to replace computer hardware.

Lifts/carries equipment weighing up to 20 lbs.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge and skills are acquired through current enrollment in a related university/college program (e.g., Computer Systems Technology).

Knowledge of computer technologies (specifically CPU architecture), cabling requirements, networking technology equipment, Microsoft Operating Systems, Windows 7, Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Visio), and the internet/intranet.

Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies and procedures.

Ability to work independently and organize time to accomplish multiple tasks.

Communication skills to provide and exchange technical assistance and/or information to clients and suppliers, and participate as an effective team member.

Ability to understand software documentation, hardware manuals, and system design and development language documentation. Ability to write correspondence using plain language to a non-technical audience.

Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.

Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.

To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate.
