Position Summary
This role supports the Grocery Manager in leading daily operations of the Grocery department to deliver strong sales, high merchandising standards, and excellent customer service. The Assistant Grocery Manager assists with inventory control, labor execution, associate supervision, and compliance with company policies while maintaining a safe, clean, and fully stocked department.
Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
Assist in overseeing daily Grocery department operations, including stocking, rotation, ordering, and merchandising.
Ensure shelves are properly stocked, faced, signed, and priced accurately.
Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
Support opening, closing, and coverage responsibilities as assigned.
Merchandising & Inventory Control
Support execution of company planograms, promotions, and seasonal sets.
Monitor inventory levels to reduce out‑of‑stocks, overstock, and shrink.
Participate in ordering, receiving, inventory counts, and accuracy processes.
Ensure proper rotation, code‑date compliance, and handling procedures.
Customer Service
Provide friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable customer service.
Resolve customer questions and concerns or escalates as appropriate.
Promote a customer‑first culture within the Grocery team.
Leadership & Team Support
Supervise and support grocery associates during assigned shifts.
Train new associates on department standards, procedures, and safety practices.
Communicate expectations clearly and provide ongoing feedback.
Act as department lead in the Grocery Manager’s absence.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and loss prevention practices.
Reinforce safe work procedures and maintain a safe environment.
Support shrink reduction and proper merchandise handling.
Qualifications
Required
Grocery retail experience, preferably in a lead or supervisory role.
Strong organizational, merchandising, and time‑management skills.
Ability to lead by example and work effectively with a team.
Effective communication and problem‑solving skills.
Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.
Preferred
Prior Assistant Grocery Manager or Lead Clerk experience.
Experience with ordering systems, inventory control, and planogram execution.
Knowledge of grocery operations, sales metrics, and shrink reduction.
Working Conditions
Retail grocery environment with frequent standing and walking.
Physical work including lifting and moving cases of product.
Exposure to cooler, freezer, and stockroom conditions.
