Primary Accountabilities
The Vocational Training Intern (VTI) will participate in an On-the-Job Training (OJT) Vocational Training Program offered through Health First / Project SEARCH in collaboration with The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), a federal-state program that prepares people with disabilities with employment skills. The internship provides hands on training with a mentor/coach and funded through VR. The intern’s compensation will be 100% reimbursed by VR.

Demonstrate dependability, reliability and flexibility.

Complete tasks in a timely manner.

Participate in projects as requested or approved by management.

May participate in and provide clerical support to other Health First departments as needed.

Team member who will assist to improve process workflow or enhance customer satisfaction.

Maintaining confidentiality at all times, following confidentiality guidelines. Responds and completes tasks assigned in a timely manner.

Assist other associates to maintain productivity and a clean work area.

Demonstrate effective communication with other members of the team and promotes effective team functioning.

Participate in the hands on learning experiences offered.

In collaboration with skills trainer the Vocational Training Intern, may provide comfort care to patients in a clean and safe environment.

Stewardship

Use and care for equipment and supplies economically.

Customer Experience

Assist customers in a caring manner, representing the organization as a committed member of HF team.

Demonstrate skills taught through Workplace Readiness Training: Soft-skills training, employability skills training, social/interpersonal skills (i.e. communication, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, empathy, professionalism, etc.) and independent living skills training related to employment (i.e. good hygiene, money management, time management, using technology and assistive technology, appropriate dress, appropriate behavior, etc.).

Use skills of Self-Advocacy: This may include self-awareness, disability disclosure, requesting accommodations, understanding rights and responsibilities, and self-determination.

Participate in Work-based Learning Experiences: This may include job shadowing, informational interviews, mock interviews, industry tours and business field trips.

Job Exploration Counseling (JEC): Apply JEC concepts regarding the benefits of competitive integrated employment available in the local labor market. This may include reviewing interest and abilities via vocational assessments, surveys, reviewing career websites, and instruction on career choices or other similar activities.

Contribute to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction.

Work Experience
Qualifications

Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.

Must be referred from VR to HF/PS within the age range of 15 or older.

Have independent personal hygiene, grooming, and daily living skills.

TB screening and flu vaccine required after hire.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Customer Focus to work with staff, patients/families at various ages and levels of understanding with job coach assistance if needed.

Initiative to respond appropriately to prompts.

Flexible to change as needed for each OJT assignment.

Adaptable to work with all levels of professionals as required by OJT assignment.

Critical thinking and problem solving to the level required by the OJT assignment.

Physical Demands

Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.

Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds, unassisted, up to 33% of the assigned shift.

Potential for exposure to bio-hazardous waste and known or unknown diseases.
