Organization Context
The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention ( HPDP ) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children’s health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 20 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Nutrition Assistant will work with the Carolina Hunger Initiative on projects related to nutrition education and federal nutrition assistance programs. This position involves supporting in-person and online nutrition education lessons for children and adults, including packing and transporting lesson materials to and from sites, working with student interns to lead nutrition education lessons, and helping to ensure lessons keep on schedule and are carried out as planned. The Nutrition Assistant will also support communications and resource development/translation activities, including filming and editing videos, taking pictures at events, developing social media content, developing nutrition education resources, and translating written materials from English into Spanish. Additional duties include supporting Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids site visits and events across the state, participating in team meetings with interns and staff, assisting with program tracking and evaluation activities, and other duties as assigned. Some travel to community locations in Orange County, NC and other areas of the state are required.
Minimum Education And Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Management Preferences
Bilingual with ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently
Experience translating written materials from English into Spanish
Proficient in Canva
Experience filming and editing videos
Experience providing nutrition education
