The salary range for this position is $19.81 – $25.75 per hour. Placement within the range depends on experience and internal equity. This is a part‑time, 32‑hour per week position located at a client site in Evanston, and requires work on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Job Description
As the

Phlebotomist , you will provide expert phlebotomy services, demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, and work as part of a highly effective team that consistently puts patients first.

Responsibilities

Perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age‑related standards and departmental policies.

Demonstrate the AIDET model and promote patient safety to reduce medical or health‑care errors.

Receive and review physician orders, ensuring all necessary information is included for appropriate lab services; enter accurate orders for lab tests.

Communicate patient information and provide appropriate post‑phlebotomy care.

Process specimens promptly to ensure stability and integrity, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging for transport.

Review/record refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records; log concerns through the Corrective Action Log and report to maintenance as needed.

Understand operation and maintenance of equipment; follow up on outstanding orders and communicate results as appropriate.

Notify laboratory and/or physicians of specimen procurement problems for optimal care.

Maintain a safe work environment, adhere to biohazard waste procedures, and ensure proper storage and pickup of biohazardous waste.

Perform lab‑related clerical duties such as order entry, verification of test results, patient information retrieval, and inventory management.

Use departmental resources efficiently; participate in cost‑reduction and process‑streamlining efforts.

Adhere to continuing education expectations and complete competency assessments.

Demonstrate teamwork and assist colleagues professionally.

Apply critical thinking and sound decision making to investigate and resolve challenging situations.

Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization, or training from a phlebotomy school/medical institution, or at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types.

Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge.

Familiarity with medical EMR systems.

Knowledge of medical terminology.
