Position Overview
We are looking for a seasonal fish hatchery worker to assist in brood stock selection, fish stocking operations, and maintenance of hatchery facilities. The role involves handling fish to minimize stress and injury, operating a fish stocking vehicle safely, loading and transporting fish, monitoring conditions, and performing repairs and maintenance on buildings, equipment, and grounds.
Schedule and Compensation
Schedule:
Seasonal, full-time (7 months), 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM with a 30‑minute lunch. Some weekend, evening, and holiday shifts, as well as standby time, may be required.
Compensation:
$18.46 – $27.15 per hour. Salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
Paid time off accrues after 750 regular hours in a calendar year. The position has no medical benefits.
Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent formal training.
Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (26,000 lbs. or more) before completing probation.
Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
Conditional offer of employment requires drug screening.
Position is subject to Child Protective Services Law provisions, requiring satisfactory criminal history checks (PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, FBI Fingerprint clearance).
