28-bed Med/Surg Tele Orthopedic Unit (7K) in a hospital setting
Patient population is primarily orthopedic (backs, necks, knees, hips), with some trauma patients with orthopedic injuries, medical patients (UTI, appendicitis, generalized weakness, etc.), and bariatric surgery patients on day of surgery and POD #1
Drips administered include Heparin and occasionally PCA with Morphine or Dilaudid; no other drips are used on this unit
Equipment includes Alaris pumps and Hercules beds
Lines and drains include Hemovac, True‑close, and JP drains (lumbar/CSF drains are managed by the neuro step‑down unit)
Oxygen modalities include BiPAP (non‑continuous only), nasal cannula, non‑rebreather, and Venturi mask; no vents or trachs
May team nurse with a small LPN population
Unit clerk support available Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM; Clinical Shift Supervisor present nights 6:00 PM–3:30 AM, 4 nights per week
12‑hour PM (night) shifts, every other weekend (EOW), every other holiday (EOH)
13‑week contract
Requirements
Active OH RN license or a valid Compact RN license currently in hand
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
Experience with surgical drains and post‑operative orthopedic patient care (backs, hips, knees) preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills required for patient and staff interactions
Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
Proof of address required for consideration (Driver's License, Voter Registration card, Federal Tax Return, Military Form DD‑2058, or W‑2)
Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
1 supervisory reference required for consideration
Copy of certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
Conducts ongoing patient assessments, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates treatment effectiveness
Serves as care coordinator across hospital departments and acts as a patient advocate in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
Experience with post‑operative orthopedic patient handling and mobilization is strongly preferred
Pass/fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam required on the first day; two attempts allowed, and a study guide will be provided
