The Administrative Assistant role supports the front desk of Medical Oncology, creating positive first impressions and ensuring safe, efficient daily operations.
Responsibilities
The role includes:
Answering telephone calls and triaging them appropriately;
Accepting appointments, including scheduling a variety of appointments and accessing hospital information systems to complete patient registration;
Obtaining and managing medical records to facilitate patient appointments;
Performing secretarial duties and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy and HIPAA guidelines;
Attending staff meetings and participating in discussions;
Performs other related duties as required.
Location
Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Shift
Monday – Friday, 40 hours/Full Time.
Education
High school level of education; PC experience required.
Skills & Abilities
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook for scheduling meetings.
General knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and alpha‑numeric filing systems.
Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing; strong command of the English language.
Ability to use the departmental telephone system to communicate with employees, physicians, and hospital staff.
Ability to adjust personal schedule to meet departmental needs.
Effective communication with patients, hospital staff, and physicians.
Performs other related duties as required.
Experience & Requirements
At least 2 years scheduling experience in an ambulatory practice (preferred).
Experience scheduling in Epic EMR (preferred).
Experience at oncology/cancer centers (preferred).
Background in a healthcare setting with medical terminology and oncology familiarity, or equivalent education/experience combination.
CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.
