Accounts Payable Clerk

A detail-oriented and dependable Accounts Payable Clerk is needed to join a downtown Chicago office. This is a contract opportunity (with a likelihood of converting to a permanent full-time role) that offers hands-on experience in a dynamic professional services setting. The ideal candidate will support firm-wide AP operations, maintain compliance with internal policies, and provide outstanding service to attorneys and staff.
Key Responsibilities

Audit and process Accounts Payable and expense reimbursement transactions using Chrome River.
Handle client- and firm-chargeable invoices, expense reimbursements, immediate checks, vendor setup, cost recovery entries, and W-9/1099 reporting.
Assist with banking activities, image verification, check mailing, sorting, and filing.
Serve as backup support for AP teammates during high-volume periods or absences.
Collaborate with departments such as Billing, Collections, Cash Receipts, Cost Recovery, and Financial Reporting.
Support staff across the firm—including attorneys, paralegals, and administrative professionals—on AP matters.
Assist with Unclaimed Property processing, including uploading records and completing due diligence and reporting.
Research and respond to AP inquiries; escalate complex or unusual transactions as needed.
Communicate policies and AP best practices with internal stakeholders.
Participate in team meetings, process improvement discussions, and special projects.
Process client refunds and negative disbursements.
Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred (or equivalent work experience).
Experience with Chrome River is highly preferred.
Understanding of standard AP processes and general ledger account coding.
Familiarity with W-9 and 1099 IRS compliance requirements.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel and AP systems.
Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines in a professional and collaborative environment.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Location: Downtown Chicago (close to transit)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, full-time business hours
In-Office: 3 days per week, with 2 days remote
