About the Role

The Company is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead its fundraising strategy and resource development efforts. The CDO will be responsible for securing the philanthropic support necessary to sustain and grow the organization's annual budget, with a focus on both institutional and individual giving. This role involves developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy, overseeing all aspects of donor engagement, and supervising a team dedicated to the mission. The ideal candidate will have a strong connection to the organization's mission, be comfortable in dynamic geopolitical and philanthropic environments, and have a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, including major gift solicitation. The CDO will work closely with the Executive Team and Board leadership to shape and advance the organization's strategy, ensuring the resources and partnerships needed to expand its impact.

Candidates for the CDO position at the company should have at least 12 years' of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a minimum of 7 years' in development staff management. The role requires a leader with a deep understanding of modern fundraising principles, ethics, and best practices, and a successful history of leading multi-channel fundraising strategies. The CDO will be expected to have a strong capability in recruiting, managing, and developing fundraising professionals, as well as a commitment to data-driven decision-making and a proactive, entrepreneurial approach to fundraising. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is the ability to serve as a public-facing ambassador for the organization. The candidate should be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, dedicated to personal and professional development, and have an adaptive, relational leadership style that fosters collaboration and mutual respect.
