Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Library and Multimedia Technology Assistant supports the school community and assists certificated teachers in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in library, technology, multimedia, and related subject matter areas.

VACANCIES:

One (1) permanent position at Lincoln Elementary School. The position is 9.25 months per year, 6 hours per day (Monday through Friday), and includes full benefits for the employee only. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill other permanent and or substitute vacancies that arise during the one-year eligibility period. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. All Glendale Unified School District jobs are in person.

-Tutor individuals or small groups in library usage and technology, reinforcing instruction and assisting with multimedia resources.
-Prepare lessons and evaluate students based on established guidelines.
-Monitor and report on student behavior and progress.
-Provide support to teachers by setting up work areas, displays, and operating technology and audio-visual equipment.
-Assist students with technology-related equipment, including computer hardware and software.
-Plan and arrange book and media displays.
-Select and read stories appropriate for various age groups, and support students with research projects.
-Maintain, catalog, and process library materials; mend and shelve books as needed.
-Collaborate with teachers on programs and materials to meet student needs.
-Ensure student health and safety by following established regulations.
-Participate in meetings and in-service training programs.
-Perform related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards

Minimum Requirements:

Education:
Equivalent of high school graduation AND one of the following:
-One year of experience as an Education Assistant II.
-Two years of higher education (48 semester units or 60 quarter units).
-Associate of Arts degree or higher.

Experience:
Some experience working with children in organized settings, preferably with technology and library resources.

Desirable:
Coursework in child development, education, or psychology.
Oral and written proficiency in a second language.

Probationary period: 130 days of paid service.
After an offer of employment, a candidate must submit evidence of freedom from tuberculosis, fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice, and a pre-employment physical exam (district-paid). The onboarding process includes legally mandated training(s) and reference checks. In addition, pursuant to Senate Bill 848 (SB 848), the District is required to conduct reference checks that include inquiry into whether the applicant has ever been the subject of a credible complaint, investigation, or disciplinary action related to child abuse, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment.

Depending on hours worked per day:
Benefits for permanent employees who work less than 4 hours per day include vision care.
Benefits for permanent employees who work 4 or more hours per day include medical, dental, vision and life insurance.

Salary: The beginning and ending salary steps are shown on each examination announcement. Employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate.

Holidays: Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.

Sick Leave: One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited.

Retirement: All new employees who work half time or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program. Contributions are withheld from salary. Employees may become eligible for retirement at age 50 with a minimum of five years service.

Examination Process: A review of the applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position. Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part.

Eligibility List: Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores. This list is normally in effect for one year.

Classification: When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews. The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them. Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed. New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved.

Fingerprint Requirement: California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees.

Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination: New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.

Accommodation: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, applicants with disabilities may request that reasonable accommodation be given related to the actual examination process. Requests must be made at the time of application.

Physical Examination: Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others. As a condition of employment, all prospective new hires must receive District approval relating to their fitness to work based on a physical examination. Tests must be given by a District-approved physician.

Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reporter Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment. The training must also be completed annually thereafter.

Veterans Preference: Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans' status (Form DD-214). This evidence must be presented during the examination procedure. No credit will be given after this period.
