About the Role

The head coach develops, organizes, coordinates, and promotes a well‑rounded, comprehensive athletic program at Pacifica Christian High School, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission of "Thinking Well, Living Well, & Life Together".
What You'll Do

Pre‑Season Responsibilities

Send a “Welcome to the Team” email outlining practice schedule, game schedule, season expectations, and a brief introduction of yourself and your coaching staff.
Hold tryouts if necessary to determine Varsity, JV, and F/S teams.
Communicate decisions to parents/players via email, letter, or in person.
Conduct a pre‑season meeting with the Director of Athletics to discuss season goals, expectations, the coaches handbook, and all logistics relating to the program.
Do an inventory of all equipment relating to the program.
Coaching Responsibilities

Provide instruction and training in the fundamentals of the sport.
Be capable of coaching all phases of the sport.
Plan and execute all team practices, carrying practice plans.
Supervise the team during practice, contests, travel, and all other team‑related activities.
Maintain facilities and team equipment to appropriate standards.
Maintain gym floor and all necessary gear (dry mop daily, wet mop twice a week).
Promote sportsmanship, fair play, and a Christ‑centered environment.
Develop, oversee, and monitor all out‑of‑season workouts, summer programs, and summer camps.
Provide basic medical treatment for non‑life‑threatening injuries.
Administrative Responsibilities

Send regular emails (suggested: weekly) to families of team members during the season.
CC Director of Athletics and immediate supervisor on all email communications.
Reply to all emails and texts in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
Understand and abide by national, state, and league rules pertaining to the sport, including athlete eligibility.
Report all scores to the Athletic Director and the appropriate media outlets before 10 PM on the night of the contest.
Complete administrative tasks assigned by the Athletic Department.
Maintain up‑to‑date Maxpreps and other sports technology platforms.
Manage and oversee coaching staff for all program levels (Varsity, JV, F/S) and conduct weekly or bi‑weekly check‑ins.
Evaluate at least one practice per month for each program.
Attend at least two lower‑level home games during the season.
Coordinate bookkeeping and line judge/scorekeeper staffing for home games, depending on the sport.
Work with the Athletic Department to foster relationships with college coaches for recruiting.
Post‑Season Responsibilities

Collect all equipment, medkits, keys, and uniforms and return them to the Athletic Department for inventory.
Meet with the Athletic Director for a post‑season debrief and evaluation within two weeks of the last game.
Plan and attend a post‑season team party.
Attend post‑season league meetings.
Prepare and distribute off‑season training opportunities, workouts, and expectations to players and parents.

Respond to communication within 24 hours.
Use strong written and oral communication skills.
Be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
Maintain confidentiality and security of information.
Hold self and others accountable to the morals and principles of Pacifica Christian High School.
Mentor, guide, and develop the Christian character of student‑athletes.
Handle multiple concurrent tasks effectively.
Adhere to biblical standards in all conduct.
Qualifications

Previous coaching experience.
Adequate knowledge and understanding of the sport.
Meet coaching certification standards as set forth by Pacifica and CIF‑SS.
Physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.
CPR/First Aid certification.
21 years or older.
Valid CA driver’s license.
Willingness to take and pass a background check.
