6G Tig Welder / Pipe Welder
This role focuses on high-quality TIG welding in the 6G position on stainless steel piping systems, along with the layout, assembly, installation, and repair of complex plumbing and process piping systems. The position requires strong technical welding skills, the ability to work to detailed specifications and codes, and experience in a construction jobsite environment.
Responsibilities
Set up welding equipment and prepare work areas for welding operations, including arc, submerged arc, gas-shielded arc, and TIG welding machines (such as the 280).
Perform precise TIG welding on stainless steel pipe and sheet metal, including 2-inch 6G position welds on schedule 10, 304 stainless steel pipe.
Carry out welding on various pipe sizes, starting with larger diameter pipe (such as 8-inch) and progressing to smaller diameter pipe as required.
Lay out, assemble, install, and repair plumbing and piping systems in accordance with project specifications and applicable trade and building codes.
Install piping systems consisting of pipes, fittings, fixtures, and equipment for heating, cooling, gas, steam, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate installation and alignment of piping and equipment.
Use appropriate welding techniques to meet ASME Section IX quality and safety standards for pressure-containing components.
Inspect completed welds and piping installations for quality, alignment, and adherence to acceptance criteria, and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
Handle socket welding and related pipe joint preparation to ensure strong, leak-free connections.
Maintain welding tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and efficient condition.
Follow all site safety procedures and guidelines while working on construction jobsites.
Essential Skills
Proven experience as a TIG welder with strong proficiency in 6G position welding on pipe.
Hands-on experience welding 304 stainless steel pipe and sheet metal.
Ability to set up and operate TIG welding machines, including experience with a 280 series TIG machine or similar equipment.
Demonstrated skill in socket welding and working with various pipe fittings and connections.
Knowledge of ASME Section IX welding requirements and acceptance criteria for radiography and bend tests.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications for piping and plumbing systems.
Experience installing and repairing piping systems for heating, cooling, gas, steam, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing applications.
Strong understanding of applicable trade and building codes related to plumbing and process piping.
Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality welds that meet strict inspection standards.
Capability to work safely and efficiently on active construction jobsites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Qualification or certification as a TIG welder.
Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, particularly Section IX for welding procedure and welder qualification.
Experience performing weld tests in accordance with ASME Section IX, including 2-inch 6G position tests on schedule 10 stainless steel pipe.
Understanding of inspection methods such as radiographic and bend testing and the related acceptance criteria.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.

Appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while performing welding and installation tasks.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plano, TX.
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
