Sous Chef

Restaurant Associates is seeking a Sous Chef to support culinary operations at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, a destination that blends seasonal cuisine, sustainability, and hospitality in a unique cultural setting. This role is ideal for a culinary professional who has grown through hourly and lead kitchen roles and is ready to step into formal leadership with the support of an experienced team. The Sous Chef works closely with the Executive Chef to bring menus to life, develop team members, and maintain high standards across daily service. We're especially excited to meet candidates who are eager to learn, open to coaching, and motivated to grow their leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
Support daily kitchen operations, including prep, service, and closing procedures
Lead and motivate hourly culinary team members during service and production
Serve as a hands-on presence on the line, modeling consistency and teamwork
Assist with training, onboarding, and coaching team members as they grow
Help maintain food quality, presentation, and portion standards
Follow and reinforce food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety practices
Collaborate with culinary leadership on menu execution and seasonal offerings
Step into leadership coverage as needed to ensure smooth kitchen operations
What We're Looking For
Experience working in a professional kitchen environment
Background in lead, trainer, or senior hourly roles (such as Lead Cook, Line Lead, or similar)
Comfort guiding peers and supporting team workflow during service
Solid understanding of kitchen fundamentals, including prep, line execution, and food safety
Willingness to learn scheduling, ordering, and supervisory responsibilities
Coachable, adaptable, and open to feedback
Collaborative approach to working with diverse teams
Calm and organized in a fast-paced environment
Pride in craftsmanship, consistency, and hospitality
