Location : This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to the OEP or Parnall headquarter located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Executive Director Procurement is a senior enterprise leader responsible for shaping and executing Consumers Energy’s end‑to‑end procurement strategy, spanning category management, sourcing, and purchasing. This role oversees a multidisciplinary supply chain organization managing approximately $3.6B in annual spend, projected to grow to $6B over the next five years. The role partners closely with senior business unit leaders and enterprise project management to support capital infrastructure delivery across Electric Distribution, Electric Supply, and Gas business units, expanding procurement’s influence across the full project development lifecycle. As a member of the VP, Supply Chain's leadership team, this role drives consistency, governance, and strategic alignment to enable an integrated supply chain and deliver long‑term value for customers and the enterprise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Reliability & Utility Growth: expand capital project procurement capabilities and influence across the entire project development lifecycle to ensure delivery of Consumers Energy’s capital plans.
Enterprise Leadership & Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, enterprise‑aligned procurement strategy across all dimensions of procurement (category management, sourcing, and purchasing). Responsible for advancing a long‑term supply chain roadmap focused on operational excellence, efficiency, and reliability; building trusted, collaborative relationships with executive stakeholders and external partners to deliver sustainable enterprise value.
Financial Stewardship & Customer Affordability: Drive supplier spend optimization and capital efficiency through advanced category management and sourcing strategies, while serving as the lead negotiator for complex, multi‑million‑dollar and multi‑year supplier contracts to deliver sustainable customer affordability and long‑term enterprise value.
Transformation & Innovation: Lead enterprise procurement modernization through digital innovation, enhanced governance, and strengthened business controls, while championing supplier diversity, sustainability, and ethical sourcing initiatives to drive long‑term value, resilience, and responsible growth.
Supplier Quality & Performance: Establish and lead the enterprise Supplier Quality organization by defining and governing supplier quality strategies, performance metrics, and assurance processes to drive continuous improvement and achieve zero operational defects.
People & Organizational Leadership: Provide executive leadership and oversight for a large, multidisciplinary organization by setting clear strategic direction, developing and mentoring senior leaders, driving performance accountability, and fostering a high‑performing, inclusive culture aligned with enterprise values and business objectives.
Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Extensive experience leading commercial operations and embedding commercial excellence to reduce enterprise risk and improve capital efficiency within highly regulated environments.
Knowledge of End‑to‑End Supply Chain Management providing comprehensive knowledge of supply chain strategy and operations, spanning sourcing, procurement, quality, engineering integration, and delivery execution.
Proven ability to operate effectively at the executive level, influencing and aligning internal leaders and external partners across complex organizations.
Exceptional skills in negotiation, diplomacy, and navigating complex organizational, regulatory, and commercial environments.
Expert understanding of quality control concepts across engineering, procurement engineering, construction, and practices to ensure operational excellence.
Outstanding written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, enabling clear executive messaging and enterprise alignment.
Demonstrated ownership mindset with a consistent track record of delivering measurable results and driving accountability at scale.
Successful leadership of large‑scale transformations, integrations, restructurings, and modernization initiatives in complex enterprises.
Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to translate deep supply chain expertise into enterprise strategy and long‑term value creation.
Demonstrated leadership acumen in developing senior leaders, building high‑performing teams, and leading multidisciplinary organizations through change.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Project Management, or related field and 12+ years of executive level experience in business, procurement, supply chain leadership, operations/project management; experience in energy or utility industry; proven success leading large, complex, spend portfolios.
