Controller
Position Overview
A leading fresh produce manufacturing and distribution company is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This highly visible, hands-on leadership role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, strong internal controls, and scalable processes to support a fast-paced, high-volume food manufacturing environment.
The Controller will partner closely with executive leadership and operations teams to provide financial insight, support strategic decision-making, and ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, inventory accounting, and financial close
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements
- Prepare management reports, financial analyses, and performance metrics for leadership
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
- Oversee inventory, cost accounting, and margin analysis within a high-volume manufacturing environment
- Monitor and analyze production costs, labor, overhead, and waste
- Partner with operations to improve cost controls and operational efficiency
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes tied to production and sales volumes
Audit, Compliance & Controls
- Manage external audits and serve as primary point of contact for auditors and tax advisors
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, food industry, and internal financial control requirements
- Establish and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Support risk management and continuous process improvement initiatives
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team, fostering accountability and operational excellence
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, sales, and executive leadership
- Provide financial insight to support growth initiatives and strategic planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
- Prior experience in manufacturing, food production, consumer goods, or distribution required
- Strong background in cost accounting and inventory management
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with ERP systems; advanced Excel skills required
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment
