Position Overview


A leading fresh produce manufacturing and distribution company is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This highly visible, hands-on leadership role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, strong internal controls, and scalable processes to support a fast-paced, high-volume food manufacturing environment.


The Controller will partner closely with executive leadership and operations teams to provide financial insight, support strategic decision-making, and ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.


Key Responsibilities


Financial Oversight & Reporting



  • Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, inventory accounting, and financial close

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements

  • Prepare management reports, financial analyses, and performance metrics for leadership

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies


Manufacturing & Cost Accounting



  • Oversee inventory, cost accounting, and margin analysis within a high-volume manufacturing environment

  • Monitor and analyze production costs, labor, overhead, and waste

  • Partner with operations to improve cost controls and operational efficiency

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes tied to production and sales volumes


Audit, Compliance & Controls



  • Manage external audits and serve as primary point of contact for auditors and tax advisors

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, food industry, and internal financial control requirements

  • Establish and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures

  • Support risk management and continuous process improvement initiatives


Leadership & Collaboration



  • Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team, fostering accountability and operational excellence

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, sales, and executive leadership

  • Provide financial insight to support growth initiatives and strategic planning


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred

  • 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility

  • Prior experience in manufacturing, food production, consumer goods, or distribution required

  • Strong background in cost accounting and inventory management

  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

  • Experience with ERP systems; advanced Excel skills required

  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment
