Senior Accountant – Construction


Buford,Ga
$80,000 - $100,000 annually


Position Summary


The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of our roofing and construction business. This position is responsible for project-based accounting, general ledger management, financial reporting, and cash flow analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, a deep understanding of debits and credits, and hands-on expertise with Sage Intacct. This role partners closely with operations and leadership to ensure accurate financial data, support forecasting, and compare budgets to actual performance.




Key Responsibilities


Project-Based & Construction Accounting



  • Manage and oversee job cost accounting for multiple roofing and construction projects

  • Track project costs, labor, materials, WIP, and margins

  • Ensure accurate allocation of costs to jobs and cost codes

  • Support project managers with financial insights and cost analysis


General Ledger & Month-End Close



  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger

  • Prepare and post journal entries

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies


Financial Reporting & Analysis



  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)

  • Analyze actual results against budget and forecast

  • Identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement

  • Assist in forecasting and financial modeling


Cash Flow & Treasury Management



  • Monitor daily and long-term cash flow needs

  • Manage cash flow projections

  • Support accounts receivable, accounts payable, and collections processes

  • Ensure proper handling of debits and credits across transactions


Inventory Management



  • Oversee inventory accounting related to roofing materials and supplies

  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation

  • Monitor usage, obsolescence, and adjustments


Budgeting & Forecasting



  • Assist with the annual budgeting process

  • Compare budgeted results to actual performance

  • Provide variance explanations and recommendations


Systems & Process Improvement



  • Utilize Sage Intacct to streamline accounting processes

  • Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures

  • Assist with audits and external financial reviews

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting operations




Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with construction industry experience required

  • Strong knowledge of project-based accounting and job costing

  • Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct highly preferred

  • Solid understanding of GAAP, debits, and credits

  • Proven experience preparing financial statements and forecasts

  • Experience with cash flow management and inventory accounting




Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in roofing or specialty construction

  • CPA or CMA designation (preferred, not required)

  • Experience working in a multi-project, fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of WIP accounting and percentage-of-completion methods
