This role reports directly to the Director of Finance and offers broad exposure across accounts payable, payroll, grants, month‑end close, and audit support. Job Duties of the Staff Accountant:
- Enter, code, and process vendor invoices in Abila MIP
- Manage accounts payable, including check runs, vendor communication, and annual 1099 preparation
- Reconcile company credit cards and accurately record expense activity
- Prepare and record accounts receivable invoices and properly code and record deposits
- Collect, review, and process bi‑weekly payroll data
- Communicate with the payroll service provider to resolve issues and maintain payroll systems
- Respond to employee payroll‑related questions as needed
- Prepare and post biweekly payroll journal entries
- Prepare standard monthly and quarterly journal entries
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly grant and staff budget‑to‑actual reports
- Assist with monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Support year‑end close procedures and annual audit preparation
- Assist with annual budget preparation
- Participate in special projects and perform other accounting duties as assigned
Qualifications for the Staff Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
- 3+ years' accounting experience, ideally in a non profit setting
- Knowledge of AP, AR, payroll processing, grant accounting and/ or journal entries beneficial
- Experience using Abila MIP, Paylocity, or similar software a plus
- Proficiency with Excel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with or sensitivity to individuals within diverse communities
Schedule & Compensation
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35 hours per week); Hybrid flexibility offered for candidates after training. Expectation is someone will be able to report to an office in Baltimore City 1-2x per week. Candidates must live in Maryland.
Salary: $63,000-$71,000 depending on experience
