Job Title: Staff Accountant


Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Reports To: Director of Finance


Position Summary


The Staff Accountant supports the organization’s financial operations with a focus on grant accounting, compliance, and general accounting functions. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting grant-funded programs, and assisting the finance department during a period of organizational growth and restructuring across multiple nonprofit entities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Grant Accounting & Compliance



  • Record and track grant revenue and expenditures, with an emphasis on federal, state, and local grant funding.

  • Ensure grant-related financial activity complies with grant agreements, funding restrictions, and applicable regulations.

  • Assist with grant budgeting, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining supporting documentation.

  • Support preparation of grant-related financial reports and compliance materials.


General Accounting Functions



  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.

  • Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.

  • Maintain accurate general ledger entries and account reconciliations.

  • Support monthly and year-end close activities.

  • Assist with budget preparation and financial monitoring.


Financial Operations & Support



  • Maintain organized financial and grant documentation in accordance with internal policies and audit requirements.

  • Assist with internal and external audits and monitoring visits.

  • Support process improvements related to accounting, data integrity, and internal controls.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance and other staff to support organizational growth and operational needs.


Qualifications


Experience



  • Prior accounting experience required; nonprofit and grant-funded accounting experience preferred.

  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger accounting.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data extraction and analysis.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.


Education



  • Degree not required; relevant accounting experience may be substituted for formal education.


Work Environment



  • Onsite position.

  • Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods.

  • Background checks required, including standard and child abuse clearances.
