Key Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant
- Maintain and analyze standard costs, product costing, and job costing within a manufacturing environment
- Monitor and reconcile inventory, including raw materials, finished goods, and work-in-progress (WIP)
- Oversee and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accuracy and cost integrity
- Track production variances and provide actionable reporting to leadership
- Perform WIP analysis and ensure accurate monthly inventory valuations
- Partner with operations to review production efficiencies and cost drivers
- Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle counts
- Support month-end close related to inventory and cost accounting functions
- Develop and improve costing processes, controls, and reporting tools
- Provide detailed Excel-based analysis, including advanced reporting and reconciliations
Qualifications for the Cost Accountant
- 1–5 years of Cost Accountant or manufacturing accounting experience
- Strong experience with inventory accounting, WIP, and BOM structures (required)
- Background in small to mid-sized manufacturing environments preferred
- Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and data analysis
- Solid understanding of standard costing and variance analysis
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
