Key Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant

• Maintain and analyze standard costs, product costing, and job costing within a manufacturing environment


• Monitor and reconcile inventory, including raw materials, finished goods, and work-in-progress (WIP)


• Oversee and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accuracy and cost integrity


• Track production variances and provide actionable reporting to leadership


• Perform WIP analysis and ensure accurate monthly inventory valuations


• Partner with operations to review production efficiencies and cost drivers


• Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle counts


• Support month-end close related to inventory and cost accounting functions


• Develop and improve costing processes, controls, and reporting tools


• Provide detailed Excel-based analysis, including advanced reporting and reconciliations

Qualifications for the Cost Accountant

• 1–5 years of Cost Accountant or manufacturing accounting experience


• Strong experience with inventory accounting, WIP, and BOM structures (required)


• Background in small to mid-sized manufacturing environments preferred


• Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and data analysis


• Solid understanding of standard costing and variance analysis


• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently


• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
