Position Overview
The Controller is a key finance leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance within a large, complex medical device organization. This role ensures the integrity of financial data, supports strategic decision‑making, and maintains compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The Controller will manage a skilled accounting team, collaborate cross‑functionally with operations and leadership, and support continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
- Oversee all core accounting functions, including general ledger, month‑end close, consolidations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies to support a regulated medical device environment.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate and manage external audits, acting as the primary point of contact for auditors.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop two direct reports, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative accounting team.
- Establish clear expectations, review work quality, and support professional development.
Business Partnership & Analysis
- Partner with finance leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders to provide financial insights and support business initiatives.
- Assist with financial analysis, variance explanations, and ad‑hoc reporting to support decision‑making.
- Support operational teams with accounting guidance related to revenue, inventory, cost accounting, or manufacturing activities as applicable.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, policies, and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Participate in system enhancements, ERP optimization, or integration initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA certification strongly preferred (active or inactive).
Experience
- 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or medical device environment.
- Prior experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role within a large, complex organization ($300M+ revenue preferred).
- Experience managing accounting teams and overseeing full-cycle accounting operations.
