Overview


A healthcare organization in the Greater Waterbury area is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Associate to support payroll operations and HR systems. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting system maintenance, compliance, and employee inquiries.

Key Responsibilities



  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of employee payroll processing

  • Maintain and support HR/Payroll information systems; assist with system updates and enhancements

  • Partner with internal IT teams and external vendors to support system functionality (including payroll and HRIS platforms)

  • Execute pre- and post-payroll processes, identifying and resolving discrepancies as they arise

  • Ensure all mandated payroll filings are completed accurately and on time

  • Prepare biweekly check requests related to invoices and payroll deductions

  • Process employee-related requests and documentation, including tax forms, verifications, and third-party disability requests

  • Manage COBRA-related payments, including tracking, reconciliation, and reporting

  • Research and resolve outstanding checks; coordinate unclaimed property processes in compliance with state requirements

  • Maintain spreadsheets and support year-end balancing for third-party reporting (e.g., union or benefits-related tracking)

  • Process loan repayments and other payroll-related deductions through the payroll system

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for payroll vendor-related inquiries and issue resolution

  • Support additional data entry and reporting needs as required

  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to employee and management inquiries in a timely and professional manner

  • Act as a key resource during internal and external audits

  • Perform other duties as assigned




Qualifications



  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • 2+ years of payroll or HRIS experience preferred, ideally in a high-volume environment

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact across multiple levels of an organization

  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information

  • Proficiency with payroll systems and general computer applications; experience with systems such as ADP or similar is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
