Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach

Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in Preschool through 12th Grade. Guided by its mission to inspire students to lead lives of purpose, learning, faith, and service, Porter-Gaud seeks a Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 School Year, who is committed to developing the whole student‑athlete‑mind, body, and spirit.
The ideal candidate will view coaching as an extension of the classroom, using the game of basketball to teach leadership, resilience, accountability, and teamwork. This individual will be passionate about fostering a program that reflects the school's core values while pursuing competitive excellence.
Primary Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

Lead the Varsity Girls Basketball program in alignment with the mission and values of Porter-Gaud School and its athletic department.
Cultivate a program culture grounded in character, commitment, and respect, where student‑athletes are challenged to grow both on and off the court.
Oversee and support program alignment from Varsity through sub‑varsity levels, fostering continuity and growth.
Build meaningful relationships with student‑athletes, mentoring them in their personal, academic, and athletic development.
Communicate consistently and thoughtfully with players and families regarding schedules, expectations, and program philosophy.
Organize and manage all aspects of the program, including scheduling, travel, equipment, and staffing.
Promote a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation, supports multi‑sport athletes, and reflects the values of the Porter‑Gaud community.
Collaborate with colleagues across the athletic department and school to support the broader student experience.
Model integrity, sportsmanship, and respect in all interactions, representing Porter‑Gaud with pride.
Assist in game and practice court preparation and overall facility readiness.
Oversee Girls Basketball budget in coordination with the Director of Athletics and ordering of uniforms, equipment, and program inventory.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Significant basketball coaching experience required, preferably at the high school or collegiate level and within an independent school setting
Reporting

The Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in both indoor facilities and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat up to a 95° Heat Index (as outlined in the Athletic Trainer's Heat Related Illness and Athletic Participation Emergency Action Plan).

This is a stipended coaching position with the opportunity to be paired with a full‑time teaching role for qualified candidates.
