Moravia Community School District. Position: Head Girls Basketball Coach – Moravia High School.
Job Summary
The Head Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and managing all aspects of the Moravia High School girls basketball program. This includes fostering student‑athlete growth, promoting sportsmanship, and ensuring alignment with district values and Iowa High School Athletic Association standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive basketball program for grades 9–12 aligned with district expectations and long‑term program goals.
Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that emphasize skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and game strategy.
Instruct student‑athletes in fundamental skills, rules of the game, and sportsmanship.
Establish and maintain high expectations for student‑athlete conduct, academic performance, and citizenship.
Supervise and support assistant coaches; provide leadership, direction, and evaluation of coaching staff.
Coordinate offseason training, camps, and player development opportunities.
Manage game preparation, including scouting opponents, creating game plans, and film review.
Oversee scheduling, transportation, equipment, and inventory in coordination with the Activities Director.
Ensure compliance with all IGHSAU, school district, and conference regulations.
Communicate effectively with student‑athletes, parents, administration, and community members.
Promote the program through positive community engagement and youth outreach initiatives.
Monitor athlete academic progress and collaborate with school staff to support student success.
Maintain accurate records, including eligibility, statistics, and program documentation.
Ensure a safe environment by enforcing proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
Attend required meetings, clinics, and professional development opportunities.
Support and collaborate with other school programs and extracurricular activities as appropriate.
Qualifications
Valid Iowa coaching authorization or teaching license with coaching endorsement.
Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and coaching techniques.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Previous coaching experience preferred, particularly at the high school level.
Commitment to developing student‑athletes both athletically and academically.
Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours required during season.
Travel for away games and events.
Year‑round responsibilities including offseason program development.
