TITLE: Student Support Specialist Intermediate School (Grades 3-5)
REPORTS TO: Principal
Position Purpose:
The Student Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the academic, behavioral and social-emotional development of all students. This position focuses on proactive, school-wide support while also coordinating targeted interventions and plans to ensure all students have equitable access to learning. The Student Support Specialist collaborates with administrators, teachers, staff, families and community partners to create a safe and supportive environment where students are empowered to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver Tier 1 SEL instruction to all students in grades 3-5.
Manage district-wide 504 Plans and participate in 504 Plan meetings to support students and families in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement strategies to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
Monitor and analyze student data (academic, behavioral, attendance) to identify needs and trends.
Assist in developing and implementing targeted interventions for students.
Provide classroom lessons on bullying prevention, conflict resolution, study skills, and social-emotional learning.
Implement school-wide initiatives to promote a positive school climate and prevent bullying and harassment.
Support a positive, inclusive school climate.
Stay up to date with federal and state regulations related to support services and participate in professional development opportunities.
Work collaboratively with district Support Specialists/Counselors to ensure consistent, aligned systems that support student learning and well-being.
Qualifications:
Iowa State Certification in PK-6 and/or K-8 (must be able to teach grades 3-5) from an accredited institution, required.
Previous experience, preferred.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with other educators, parents, and community agencies.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of support techniques and best practices in social-emotional learning.
Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to school support services.
Contract/Terms of Employment
This is a contracted teaching position governed by the district's negotiated teacher agreement. Contract days, compensation, and benefits are determined according to that agreement.
