Job Title: Repair Technician – Industrial Rotating Equipment
Job Description
The Repair Technician will travel to a variety of industrial sites, including fueling stations, power plants, refineries, water treatment facilities, and renewable energy facilities, to repair, troubleshoot, and service equipment. This role focuses on maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing industrial rotating equipment such as reciprocating engines, compressors, and steam turbines. The technician ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical systems while working independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Responsibilities
Travel to customer sites such as fueling stations, power plants, refineries, water treatment facilities, and renewable energy facilities to perform field service work.
Perform detailed inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on reciprocating engines, compressors, steam turbines, and other rotating equipment.
Conduct routine and preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend the life of mechanical systems.
Disassemble mechanical components such as pistons, valves, bearings, seals, rotors, and casings using appropriate hand and power tools.
Repair, replace, and reassemble mechanical components to restore equipment to safe and reliable operating condition.
Identify root causes of mechanical failures and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and equipment documentation to support accurate repair and installation work.
Perform installation and assembly of mechanical equipment and components as required at customer sites.
Use precision instruments and diagnostic equipment to measure, align, and verify the condition of rotating equipment.
Apply mechanical troubleshooting techniques to resolve complex equipment issues in the field with minimal supervision.
Follow established safety procedures and best practices while working in industrial environments, including heat, noise, and confined spaces.
Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams regarding findings, repair recommendations, and work performed.
Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in a clear and accurate manner.
Represent the company professionally in a customer-facing role while traveling across multiple states.
Essential Skills
3–5 years of experience working in an industrial environment repairing machinery and equipment.
Proven hands-on experience repairing reciprocating engines, compressors, and/or steam turbines in an industrial setting.
Strong mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and basic fluid dynamics.
Proficiency using mechanical hand and power tools, precision instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
Capability to lift heavy components and perform physically demanding work in industrial environments, including exposure to heat, noise, and confined spaces.
Ability and willingness to travel across multiple states and spend extended periods of time away from home.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Technical or vocational training in a mechanical or industrial discipline is preferred.
Technical school education and military experience are viewed favorably.
Experience in power generation, oil and gas, chemical processing, or heavy industrial maintenance is preferred.
Certification in mechanical maintenance, millwrighting, or a related field is an advantage.
Familiarity with vibration analysis, alignment techniques, and condition monitoring systems is beneficial.
Experience with inspection, repair, and overhaul of complex steam turbines, reciprocating and integral engines, centrifugal and screw compressors, and trip and throttle valves is highly valuable.
Comfort working in a customer-facing field service role with frequent travel.
