Overview
The Japanese Translator provides accurate, timely, and context-appropriate translation and interpretation support across complex industrial engineering and installation projects. The role supports day-to-day project execution by enabling clear communication between Japanese-speaking clients, suppliers, and global delivery teams. Aligned with Beck & Pollitzer’s execution model, this role is embedded within project delivery teams, supporting engineering, construction, installation, commissioning, and client coordination activities—often in fast-paced, site-based environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide Japanese ↔ English translation and interpretation support during project execution activities
Support daily communication between project teams, site personnel, clients, and suppliers
Attend project meetings, site walkdowns, progress reviews, and coordination calls as required
Enable clear communication of technical, safety, and execution information
Translate technical documents including drawings, specifications, method statements, procedures, schedules, and reports
Support translation of quality documentation, safety materials, and installation instructions
Ensure translated content is technically accurate and aligned with project terminology
Support preparation of client deliverables and project handover documentation
Serve as a key communication bridge between Japanese clients and project delivery teams
Support client meetings, audits, inspections, and site visits
Assist Project Managers in managing expectations and clarifying technical or execution-related discussions
Demonstrate professionalism and cultural awareness in all client-facing interactions
Support site execution activities where real-time interpretation is critical to safety and quality
Assist with onboarding, inductions, and training sessions involving Japanese-speaking stakeholders
Translate and communicate safety briefings, toolbox talks, and quality requirements
Operate effectively within active industrial or construction environments
Support cross-cultural communication to ensure alignment with Japanese business practices
Help project teams understand cultural nuances that impact decision-making and communication
Experience, Qualifications and Key Competencies
Native or fluent proficiency in
Japanese and English (written and spoken)
3–7+ years of professional translation or interpretation experience
Experience supporting
engineering, construction, manufacturing, or industrial project environments
strongly preferred
Proven ability to translate complex technical terminology accurately
Experience working in site-based or execution-heavy environments
Strong understanding of technical, engineering, and construction terminology
Ability to translate verbal and written communication in real time under pressure
High attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management systems
Ability to manage confidential and commercially sensitive information
Clear, confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
Calm and composed in fast-paced or high-pressure environments
Highly organized and adaptable to shifting project priorities
Strong cultural awareness and professionalism
Team-oriented with a delivery-focused mindset
