Emergency Room Technical Assistant — 24 Hours

Status: Contingent Location: Plymouth Medical Center
We are an 18‑bed, freestanding ER connected to a medical center. Our providers (both physicians and MLPs) see pediatric and adult patients, and handle EMS traffic when appropriate. Staff work closely together sharing a central workstation and collaborate with pharmacy, lab, US, and radiology. We value diversity and strive to provide the safest and best care.
Day‑to‑day duties include blood draws, EKGs, vital signs, triage assistance, bladder scanning, code support, 1:1 monitoring of behavioral health patients, fall patient care, splinting, wound care, and maintaining a clean environment with housekeeping.
Headed by a Director, Nurse Manager, and Nursing Supervisor, the department emphasizes safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
General Summary
Assist with patient care as needed within the scope of practice under direct supervision of a registered nurse or provider.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist RNs and providers with assessments, examinations, and treatments.
Drawing blood and specimen collection
EKG performance
Splint/immobilizer application
Take vital signs on adults and pediatric patients
Insert neuro‑gastric tubes
Urethral catheterization of adult patients
Discontinue peripheral IVs
Start unmedicated IVs
Prepare and assist with procedures such as suturing, cast application, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures
Assist patients as needed
Recognize life‑threatening dysrhythmias and abnormal vital signs and report to RN/Provider
Adhere to hospital policy on standard precautions, safety regulations, and guidelines
Document patient care performed
Interact with patients and families to ensure excellent patient and customer experiences
Transport patients and supplies
Clean equipment, monitor stock, and restock equipment and supplies as required
Assist in ordering routine equipment, maintaining sufficient stretchers, wheelchairs, suction equipment, etc. in the ER area
Maintain departmental cleanliness and prepare rooms between patients
Education / Experience Required
High School diploma or GED equivalent
BCLS certification
Previous Emergency Department Technician or Medical Assistant experience preferred
Certifications / Licenses Required
One of the following certifications or programs required:
B‑EMT
Graduate from a formal Medical Assistant program
Completion of a formal nursing education program
Completion of a formal medical doctor education program
OR one year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience in lieu of the above
Additional Requirements
Must complete applicable certification/program within 12 months of hire
Successful completion of a 180‑day orientation period required
EMT license preferred
