
Operating Engineer Master (PM Shop)

LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Operating Engineer Master in the Preventive Maintenance Shop. Multiple vacancies are available.
Job Duties
Perform preventive maintenance tasks on building mechanical equipment and components.
Perform preventive maintenance tasks on pumps, motors, control systems, piping and other equipment.
Operate, monitor and control system‑wide output.
Operate building mechanical systems including firing up steam boilers, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
Perform minor projects such as pipefitting, mechanical equipment, electrical circuits and painting.
Takes immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow an accident to occur.
Perform chemical and softener tests.
Blow down boilers.
Read gauges to check water levels, steam pressure, and operation of valves and auxiliary pumps.
Assist other trades with preventive maintenance tasks.
Special events work, campus maintenance emergencies, work orders.
Position-Specific Details
Possession of a 2nd class license in steam boilers and air conditioning.
Must have a current driver’s license.
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems.
Compensation
The starting rate of pay is $21.05 per hour and the 1st Quartile rate of pay is $25.26, with additional $1 longevity pay, $2 shift differential and $3 weekend pay for hours worked only. Rate of pay may be adjusted dependent upon applicants’ experience and qualifications.

Qualifications
Three years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: For positions involving refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990) is required.
