Position Summary

Our client is a leading energy company seeking an experienced Accountant at the Level 3 grade to join their Houston-based finance team on a 12-month W2 contract. This role takes a lead position on special projects, including researching, analysing, and reporting on issues that affect the business, making recommendations for resolution, and seeing those recommendations through to completion.

Responsibilities

Record operated and non-operated revenue across all product lines
Ensure accurate and timely posting of monthly revenue journal entries
Prepare cash entries and reclassifications as required
Process reverse and rebook entries when applicable
Analyse accrual-to-actual variances and investigate discrepancies
Prepare monthly journal entries in SAP and Excalibur
Complete and review monthly revenue reconciliations
Perform quarterly reconciliations between Excalibur and SAP
Analyse and reconcile intercompany account balances
Assist with owner inquiries, including detailed reconciliations and issue resolution
Conduct financial analysis to validate monthly entries and confirm accuracy
Collaborate with internal departments to obtain required revenue data
Follow up with non-operated partners regarding outstanding revenue information
Work with the Division Order group to resolve non-operated and Take-in-Kind revenue issues
Coordinate and respond to internal and external audit requests
Maintain a sound understanding of GAAP, SEC regulations, and relevant company policies and procedures
Safeguard the accounting integrity of corporate financial data through appropriate internal controls
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
5+ years of relevant accounting experience
Knowledge & Skills

Strong knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
Experience with SAP and Excalibur accounting systems
Proven ability to perform variance analysis and reconciliations in a complex, multi-entity environment
Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
