Job Description
As the custodial lead for the Summer Skills Program (June 15 – July 2, Monday–Friday), this role maintains cleanliness, performs minor repairs, secures the building, and manages supplies and equipment.
Work hours are approximately 3.5 hours per day, with a half‑day prep on June 11.
Major Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Maintain regular attendance.
Clean and preserve designated spaces, including classrooms, offices, libraries, restrooms, and common areas.
Dust, empty trash, vacuum, wash windows, mop, disinfect, and polish floors.
Perform minor maintenance and repairs.
Report vandalism or other school property concerns to supervisor.
Secure the building at the end of the day.
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
Comply with county policies.
Communicate, read, write, and follow instructions.
Demonstrate knowledge of custodian methods, procedures, and safety principles.
Operate equipment such as buffers, rug cleaners, vacuums, and floor strippers.
Perform physical tasks requiring lifting up to 75 lbs and work on ladders or scaffolds.
Work up to 40 hours per week with supervisor approval.
Assist with plumbing, electrical, painting, and other minor repairs as needed.
Move furniture, assist at special events, and correct safety hazards.
Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.
Help assign and review tasks for other custodians (if head custodian).
Work under minimal or no supervision; be an effective self‑starter.
Complete required training and in‑service.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid criminal background check pursuant to WV Code.
Experience in custodial work, including operating HVAC equipment and minor repairs.
Ability to multi‑task, work independently, and follow written and oral instructions.
Good health, dexterity, and physical strength for custodial duties.
Able to pass written and physical tests relevant to the position.
Demonstrated competency as required by WV Code §18A‑4‑8e.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Minimum of three supervisory references required for consideration.
Physical / Mental Requirements
The role involves frequent lifting and moving of up to 75 pounds, exposure to temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 90°F, and moderate to loud noise levels. Emotional control under stress and positive interaction with staff, students, and the public are essential.
Work Environment
Employees work in school buildings subject to varying temperatures and noise, with potential wet or slippery floors during cleaning and snow removal.
Additional Job Information

Individuals who have been dismissed or had contracts non‑renewed for cause are not eligible for consideration.
