Part-Time Central Scheduling Specialist

Job Description Summary
Responsible for focusing on the outpatient experience as patients enter the hospital relative to pre services functions and hospitality. This includes, at a minimum, scheduling and pre registration.

Essential Functions

Book appointments for services at South Shore Hospital (SSH). Booking may be done with the patient, physician, physician’s office or by fax.

Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, owning entire process from beginning to end, including: patient payment estimation, scheduling appointments, collection of co‑pays, provision of interpreter services, provision of transportation.

Ensure that patient has a complete understanding of tests scheduled and any preps that are necessary.

Accurate pre registration of all patient accounts (meeting department standard of 98% accuracy on all registrations).

Efficiently use all scheduling software for all appointment types.

Responsible for all verification of insurance benefits for all accounts.

Retrieve all authorizations as necessary.

Determine co‑pays and collect them using eCashiering program.

Coordinate with the Authorization team.

Know when to elevate issues appropriately to higher level (Team Leader).

Qualifications

Medical Terminology knowledge.

Strong computer skills.

Strong telephone and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated skills in customer service.

Knowledge of health insurance requirements.

Ability to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Ability to work in a team setting.

Minimum education: high school diploma; two (2) years of college preferred.

Minimum work experience: one (1) year of admitting experience to become proficient.
