Summary
The Legal Specialist reports to the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer and is responsible for providing legal assistance to in-house counsel and internal clients with primary responsibility for pharmacy benefit management and pharmacy licensing and other regulatory matters, commercial contracting, compliance, and litigation support.
Acts as liaison and internal client point of contact regarding various legal issues, regulatory compliance reporting requirements
Identifies and interprets regulatory laws applicable to Company operations
Determines statutory compliance strategies and reporting requirements
Prepares regulatory filings in support of statutory requirements
Assist in reviewing transactional documents dealing with clients, vendors, acquisitions, financing, and commercial leases
Participate in the development and documentation of corporate policies, procedures and programs
Monitors changes to industry guidelines/regulations and submits reports of pertinent changes
Provide legal assistance to the Chief Compliance Officer
Familiarize management with specific regulatory and fraud, waste and abuse risks under the direction of the Chief Compliance Officer
Assists company in litigation
Supervises and directs administrative staff to ensure ongoing commitment to company initiatives and completion of special projects
Performs research as needed
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Legal or paralegal studies or similar competencies
Experience in health care, pharmacy or other regulated industries preferred
8 + years of relevant experience which may include prior law firm or corporate legal department experience
Prior experience in project management
Experience with electronic contract management systems
Experience with legal document management and databases
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Microsoft Office suite
Excellent analytical research and documentation of writing skills as demonstrated by past draft examples
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to work successfully in a high-pressure environment

Work Environment / Physical Demands
This position is in a typical office environment which requires prolonged sitting in front of a computer. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment including operation of standard computer and phone equipment. May have occasional high stress when dealing with customers/clients. Some travel may be required.
