
Facilities Ops Technician I - BOF, Central Area (Galveston)

High School diploma or recognized equivalent and basic knowledge in industrial /commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership (i.e., Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms). Two years of general experience working in at least one of the above-mentioned crafts. Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post‑offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. from the floor to the knuckle and requires frequent bending, standing, and walking.
Job Description
Perform at a general/basic level in at least one Industrial/Commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) with two years of experience for maintenance and repair of Heavy Commercial building systems and equipment.
Job Duties
Proactively maintains all aspects of the assigned area of responsibility and communicates with customers and the supervisor of action taken.
Serves as the primary point of contact for customers for all Property Services (Physical Plant).
Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation.
Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.
Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks.
Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
Assists in major maintenance repairs.
Performs duties associated with all crafts, as developing skills safely allows.
Supports area shift coverage, on‑call duties, and after‑hours or extended projects as needed for an institution that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Participates in disaster/hurricane preparedness lists, e.g., E1A (Ride‑out team) or E1B (Recovery team).
Completes all UTMB‑required compliance training.
Attends staff training and safety meetings.
Identifies and reports safety hazards.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Performs related duties as required.
Equipment
Use of hand and power tools used in industrial building allied trades. Basic computer skills and the ability to use and operate handheld electronic communication devices. Skills associated with diagnostic testing equipment.
Working Environment/Location of Position
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. May be exposed to communicable diseases and harmful chemicals.
Some exposure to weather and physical hazards.
Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.
Exposure to areas under construction.
Usual working conditions are located in craft shops and mechanical rooms.
Exposure to adverse weather conditions or temperature extremes.
Exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards.
Proper safety and precautions must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems.
Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops at high elevations.
Work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under‑floor crawlspaces, and manholes.
May be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
