
Mechanical Engineer - Building Systems

Firm Description
INFORM Studio is a woman-owned, multidisciplinary design practice with offices in Detroit, Northville (HQ), and Chicago. We specialize in the design of mixed-use, community, cultural, retail, urban design, and multi-family projects across the nation. As a team of engineers, architects, urban and computational designers, we are focused on changing the way the built environment is designed and delivered to bring positive change.
Responsibilities and Duties
Collaborate with architects and engineers to design building HVAC and plumbing systems that align with project goals
Prepare construction documentation for mechanical and plumbing systems
Perform engineering analysis including load calculations, energy modeling, and equipment sizing
Evaluate existing building systems to determine potential for reuse, adaptation, or replacement
Support project teams with technical problem-solving and contribute to design innovation
Perform research and obtain and review selections of mechanical and plumbing equipment.
Research and interpret any required mechanical, plumbing and any other building codes relevant to assigned projects.
Perform reviews of fire protection system design & performance specifications
Write/edit project specifications (CSI divisions 21, 22 and 23).
Perform construction administration including tasks such as field inspections and reports, submittal reviews, RFI responses, project closeouts, as-built documentation, and issuing design change directives.
Periodic travel to sites within the United States to perform data collection, condition assessments, construction administration, and similar activities.
Present mechanical concepts/designs in client presentations and/or review meetings.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in mechanical & plumbing design within the AEC industry
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (ABET accredited)
Having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam or actively pursuing.
LEED accreditation a plus; Licensed profession engineer a plus.
Familiarity with HVAC and plumbing system design, energy modeling, and mechanical and plumbing codes
Proficiency in Revit, Carrier HAP, AutoCAD, Bluebeam REVU, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google products.
An interest in learning Dynamo or other computational tools.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with a desire to learn and grow
