What does a Human Resources Generalist do?
Fosters the development of staff at all levels in the organization
Maintains updated Employee Handbook, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources
Maintain accurate and updated files for all benefits, unemployment, LOA requests, worker’s comp claims, and any other areas required
Handles employee relations, counseling and supports branch leadership with staff performance matters
Review all terminations to ensure compliance with termination and off-boarding procedures
Assist department in training development and design of new systems to streamline HR processes
Serves as a back-up for payroll
Ensure compliance to established procedures, policies, and safety standards. Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner
Remain current with employment laws and regulations. Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel
Other duties as assigned in your specific HR area

Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
Bachelor’s Degree preferred; related work experience may offset degree requirement
2+ years’ previous work-related experience preferred
Knowledge of State and Federal HR laws
PHR/SPHR Certification preferred
Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
Maintain a valid California driver’s license, active participation in the California DMV Pull Program, an acceptable driving record and approval status as determined by the Channel Islands YMCA and/or its insurance carrier
