Job Summary
Provide direct early childhood special education services on an itinerant basis to children in a variety of community based settings including, but not limited to Head Start, childcare centers, and community-based preschools. Provide indirect early childhood special education services by working with community-based setting program staff in adjusting the environment and/or modifying instructional methods to meet the individual needs of early childhood students with disabilities.
Essential Functions
Implement all roles specific to an early childhood special education teacher within the school district.
Serve as case manager and provide direct service minutes to meet the special education needs as outlined in students' IEPs for students that are enrolled only in the community based organization (CBO).
Coordinate services and promote collaborative teaming between JMECC and the CBOs for students that are dually enrolled and receiving special education services through VVSD.
Implement consultation time into the schedule to work with community-based program staff on specific student needs. This should take place a minimum of weekly and be prepared to lead discussion related to students on the caseload.
Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, related service providers and other school staff to identify supports and strategies to embed into the routines of the day to support the student with a disability.
Educate community-based program staff on evidence-based practices, student disabilities, the special education process, confidentiality, and implementing the children's Individualized Education Plans.
Implement a consistent schedule for providing services and communicate with programs if a change in schedule is needed.
Document progress of students and develop data collection procedures for use by all classroom staff.
Qualifications
Education and Licensure
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Early Childhood Endorsement and Early Childhood Special Education Endorsement or Approval and ESL Endorsement
Creative Curriculum/ECERS (Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale) Training/ISBE approved Early Childhood Assessment required.
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and the Illinois Early Learning Standard
Knowledge of current teaching techniques of children with disabilities
Ability to write and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
Experience
Minimum of two years teaching experience in a preschool setting, preferably in an inclusive setting supporting children with disabilities.
Experience implementing IEPs.
Experience working consultatively and collaboratively with a team of professionals.
Experience working with students and families of diverse backgrounds.
Other Skills and Abilities
Understands and celebrates the value of equitable and inclusive services.
Excellent organizational abilities and time management skills.
Ability to interact with other professionals in positive ways to maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge, skills, and experience in curriculum development and assessment.

Terms of Employment
Salary for this position is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the AFT-CIO Local 604 and the Valley View CUSD #365U. Work year is based on the contractual certified educator calendar with scheduled days as determined annually by the District. This is an FLSA Exempt position.
Pay Scale and Benefit Disclosure
Salary is in accordance with the teacher salary schedule.
