Qualifications

A valid Type A, Type B, or Level 3 Louisiana Teaching Certificate with a Master’s degree or higher or completion of a Practitioner/Residency Leader Program.

Applicant must qualify for endorsement as Principal, Provisional Principal, Elementary Principal, or Educational Leader.

Must have five (5) years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience within the five (5) year period preceding appointment.

Job Purpose
To assist the Principal in providing leadership in developing, achieving and maintaining good educational programs and services in the assigned school.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the administration and/or supervision of the school.

Serve as principal in his/her absence.

Accept and perform other duties assigned by the Principal.

Assist with adding teaching duties when necessary.

Establish and execute a professional growth and self‑evaluation plan.

Carry out the Performance Expectations and Indicators for Educational Leaders as outlined in Bulletin 130.

Participate in school mission, vision, and strategic goal setting; monitor and communicate goals.

Provide instructional leadership: curriculum and assessment, teacher effectiveness, meeting student needs, instructional focus.

Build capacity: reflective practices, leadership development, collaborative practices, continuous improvement.

Foster school community and environment: maintain school atmosphere, engage community, manage discipline, ensure access to high‑quality education, respond to stakeholders.

Display professionalism and integrity: adhere to professional norms, behavior, and policy.

Manage school operations: administrative, fiscal, and physical management.

Collaborate effectively with school personnel and staff.

Demonstrate self‑direction.

Submit accurate records and reports promptly.

Exhibit professional ethics.

Foster open communication and positive relationships with school personnel, staff, and the community.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal within the scope of teaching and learning during contracted hours.

Follow state, school board, and school policies.

Additional duties include:

Instructional components: reviewing, drafting, studying, recommending, and implementing policies, curricula, and plans to improve instruction; conducting walks‑throughs; preparing class schedules; participating in staffing decisions; and maintaining positive parent and community contact.

Supervision: supervising teachers and other staff; preparing and implementing observations, evaluations, IAPs, and related monitoring.

Non‑instructional components: maintaining campus cleanliness; ensuring student discipline; attending meetings (faculty, staff, department, central office, principal, school board, committee); establishing school policies; attending trainings, job fairs, IEP meetings, back‑to‑school events, graduation; interviewing, hiring, and supervising personnel; managing disciplinary documentation; supporting extracurricular, athletic, and after‑school events; providing additional supervision or support to students as needed.
