Site Facilitator - Broadus Wood Elementary
Extended Day Enrichment After School Program
2026-27 School Year, Part-time 76% (5.5 hrs/day), 10 Months/year
General Definition of Work:
Facilitates a high quality extended day enrichment program.
Essential Functions
Maintains a safe environment:
Takes all necessary steps and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, facility and equipment; is knowledgeable of students’ special needs including allergies, medications, medical history and limitations; provides first aid as needed; completes student accident reports and submits to Department of Fiscal Services; completes first report of accident and submits to Human Resources within 24 hours; maintains a clean work area; develops and maintains a physical environment conducive to effective learning; is aware of students’ whereabouts at all times; coordinates emergency drills with school staff.
Oversees daily operation of program:
Sets goals and develops plan of action to achieve them with input from EDEP Supervisor and Coordinator; adapts/revises program to meet changing needs of staff, students or work environment; may act as Program Director for site; maintains accurate inventory of materials, supplies, and resources; prioritizes purchases; maintains the student‑teacher ratio; hires substitute staff as necessary.
Supervises and evaluates staff:
Addresses employee performance issues; coordinates staff meetings; completes evaluations and probationary reviews in a timely manner; assesses staff training needs and coordinates mentoring/training of staff with EDEP supervisor; completes requisite forms (leave reports, payroll reports, etc.) in a timely manner.
Establishes and maintains high standards of behavior for staff and students:
Oversees behavior management system consistent with school philosophy; handles severe student behavior problems; models high standards of behavior; expects staff and students to set and maintain high standards; is familiar with different types of behavior management philosophies.
Maintains accurate attendance records / knowledge of EDEP database:
Meets students at designated time and location; informs school staff of any discrepancies in attendance; develops and implements “Missing Child” procedures; inputs attendance into EDEP database daily; maintains updated student attendance information in database.
Provides instructional leadership:
Guides staff in development of themes and lesson planning; provides a multi‑cultural, integrated curriculum including arts and crafts, music, dance, drama, math, science, social studies, language arts, and physical education; ensures lesson plans are age‑appropriate, hands‑on and experiential; ensures variety of enrichment opportunities is consistently provided; collects lesson plans and submits material requests at least two weeks in advance; accesses a variety of resources, including multimedia, to motivate children; gathers and prepares necessary materials prior to arrival of students; makes reasonable accommodations to include students with special needs; develops lesson plans aligned with the Standards of Learning.
Attends administrative meetings as scheduled:
Attends monthly meetings with EDEP Supervisor; attends additional meetings as scheduled.
Provides care for students and participates in all EDEP programs as assigned (student holiday, spring break, and inclement weather):
Oversees the distribution of snacks:
Maintains accurate inventory of snacks and submits to supervisor weekly; facilitates snack storage.
Coordinates activities and special events with EDEP and school staff:
Coordinates schedule with school staff; plans field trips, speakers and extra‑curricular activities with input from EDEP Supervisor and/or Coordinator; collects registration/permission forms and fees for field trips, supplemental classes, etc.
Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships with EDEP staff and school staff:
Maintains open lines of communication with EDEP staff and all school staff including cafeteria staff, secretaries, custodial staff, principal(s), teachers and teacher assistants; handles all injuries, property damage and severe behavior problems on day of occurrence and reports to school staff and EDEP Supervisor as needed; attends school faculty/staff meetings.
Exhibits positive public relations:
Establishes and maintains cooperative, professional relationships with parents/guardians; prepares bulletin boards, newsletters and displays; dresses appropriately.
Upholds EDEP, Albemarle County and school rules, policies and procedures.
Enforces EDEP policies:
Distributes overdue notices/suspension letters; enforces suspensions; posts reminders of payment due date; oversees student pick‑up/sign‑out procedures.
Attends required and assigned training sessions:
Receives First Aid and CPR certification; attends assigned staff development.
Exhibits dependable work habits:
Arrives to work promptly; requests personal leave in accordance with policy guidelines; informs Supervisor of absence due to illness by 10:00am on day of absence.
Performs related duties as assigned by administration in accordance with school/county policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic First Aid and CPR certified; knowledge of child development and stages of growth; lesson planning ability; word processing and database skills; strong organizational skills; behavior management skills; supervisory skills; punctuality and dependability; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education and Experience
Education or experience equivalent to a baccalaureate degree and at least one year of additional experience in a supervisory capacity plus one year of programming experience; training in basic first aid.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work
Duties performed typically in a school setting to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces; frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 80 pounds, and other limited physical activities required; occasional travel with students on field trips; frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required; occasional lifting of equipment such as audio‑visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; lifting and movement of boxes containing food, drink or snacks may be required; daily personal and close contact with children, staff members and parents; occasional contact with medical professionals.
