Job Description: The University of Cincinnati College of Law, an ABA‑accredited law school, seeks lawyers and judges to teach a Products Liability course to students on a part‑time basis during Spring 2027 or Fall 2028. The course examines civil liability arising from injuries caused by defective products. Topics include design defects, manufacturing defects, and failure‑to‑warn claims, as well as the role of strict liability and negligence in product‑related injuries. The course also considers the responsibilities of manufacturers, distributors, and sellers and the challenges of proving product defects and causation, the role of expert testimony, regulatory oversight, and policy debates surrounding consumer safety and innovation.

Adjunct faculty bring practical experience and specialized expertise to enrich curriculum, offering students unique perspectives and opportunities to learn from leading practitioners and judges.

Essential Functions

Prepare the course materials including syllabus, lesson plans, teaching materials, books, assessments, and exam dates.

Create a conducive classroom environment.

Teach the assigned course(s) using fair and effective pedagogical methods.

Track student attendance and communicate attendance and performance issues to the Administration.

Post assignments, syllabi, and other reference materials on Canvas and communicate with students.

Read student work and assessments and provide written feedback promptly.

Hold office hours to give individualized direction and assess progress.

Coordinate with Administration to schedule make‑up classes for cancelled sessions as needed.

Grade mid‑term and final exams, other assessments, and submit grades per timelines set by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Analyze student evaluations to identify teaching improvements.

Adhere to all University and College of Law policies.

Complete all employment documentation and required trainings.

Minimum Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA‑accredited law school or equivalent.

Five years post‑J.D. work experience in legal practice or a related field; exceptions may be made for co‑teachers with fewer years of experience.

Effective communication skills.

Professional composure and demeanor at all times.

Promotion of the College’s vision, mission, and core values.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Prior teaching experience desirable; evidence of teaching potential required.

Face‑to‑face instruction is the default mode; distance learning allowed under policy conditions.
