Vehicle Impoundment Supervisor I - PROMOTIONAL

This posting is only open to current, regular employees of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Responsibilities

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.

Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.

Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures.

Responds to complaints and inquiries from the public, and resolves problems and concerns.

Inspects the impoundment lot, plans and organizes vehicle placement for availability of space and easy location for the public.

Communicates with the police department and other law enforcement agencies to ensure vehicles on hold are leased in a timely manner.

Schedules maintenance activities of the impoundment lot, buildings and grounds and supervises the pickup of weeds and debris to prevent safety hazards.

Supervises public auctions and ensures that correct vehicles are towed to sales lot and bidders remain in the auction area near the auctioneer.

Maintains records on wrecker pickup and radio repairs assigned to the impoundment facility.

Inventories and orders equipment, supplies and materials; and prepares and submits cost estimates, specifications, bid requests and work orders for the upkeep of the building, grounds and equipment.

Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning vehicle impoundment, towing and recovery, and public auction activities.

Evaluates impoundment operations, policies and procedures and recommends changes to improve efficiency of services.

Operates a personal computer to enter, code, store and edit database records, prepares reports and completes special projects.

Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

Must be a current, regular employee of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Associate degree in Business or Public Administration or related discipline.

Three (3) years of office administration, customer service, complaint resolution or public relations experience.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Other Minimum Requirements

Must not have been convicted of a felony or have any criminal action pending against them.

Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis.

Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening.

Must pass a pre-employment polygraph test.

Must be on 24-hour call.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Applicants who have illegally bought or used marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within six months of application will be disqualified.

Applicants who have illegally sold marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within one year of application will be disqualified.

Applicants who have illegally bought, sold, or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug, other than marijuana, without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified.

Salary Grade: 113

Physical Demands
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)
Involves routine and frequent exposure to:

Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.

Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
